109 - Adaptive Learning: Using xAPI for a Bespoke Experience
The most effective training will meet the needs of the learner. But no two people are the same. Each will have different needs, different abilities, and different experiences. In order to be truly effective, training needs to take all of this into account and self-tailor into an adaptive, bespoke learning experience. It must be content that can assess the needs of the learner, including performance gaps, and present the information that they need in order to meet performance benchmarks. But until now, such considerations had to happen within the walls of that training product.
The eXperience API (xAPI) breaks down those walls. Using xAPI, your courses can self-tailor based on learner performance in that course, in other courses, or even recorded job performance in the real world. And, best of all, it isn't as difficult as you might believe! In this session, we'll look at practical examples of how xAPI can be used to build adaptive learning solutions. We’ll explore three examples of building content that will self-adjust based on internal course performance, performance in another course, and real-world job performance. At the end of the session, you’ll have a better understanding of what is possible and how to create training that meets the needs of your audience.
In this session, you will learn:
- What is xAPI
- How to use xAPI to tailor your training products
- What you need to consider when building adaptive products
- What data will help you build adaptive products
