202 - BYOD: Tell a Better Story with Your Metrics with Microsoft Power BI
Your gut may not steer you wrong when making tough decisions for organizational support but management needs concrete data-driven evidence to support those "gut" decisions. Excel, Access, Power BI, SQL databases, etc. can all be used to tell your story, but you need to know what information is needed to better tell a compelling story of improvement. Do you know where your data lives? If you answered yes, then this is the crash course is for you! Come learn how to import your data into Microsoft Power BI so you can begin crafting dashboards that will help you convey the direction your organization is going.
In this session, you’ll learn how to identify root causes by learning how to collect, analyze, and implement data to create transparent dashboards, informative reports, and dynamic quality control checks within your organization. You’ll use Microsoft Power BI to create dashboards from stagnant databases. You’ll also learn what type of data and information is important when crafting dashboards, reports, and quality control checks. Lastly, you’ll be able to take components from this session and apply it in your organization immediately to identify bad data, unreliable reports, and dashboards that don't tell a story.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to design a dashboard from multiple disconnected databases to show how one component affects another
- Techniques for working with your existing data to build reports that tell a story
- How to create quality control checks using data
- How to develop a baseline of analytical skills
