713 - Build a Low-Cost Spaced Learning Program
Within an hour of leaving a training, the leaner has often lost half the information. By the same time the next day, up to 70%, and in a week, you're luck if they remember 10%—and much of that is how they felt about the training, not the content of it. We know that spacing out training makes it more retainable. Most organizations and training professionals spend their time focusing on the training event, not the prework and postwork that will ensure the behavior change and knowledge retention. In this session we'll talk about the brain science and latest research in learning retention and behavior change. That will lead into how training programs are currently developed and what learning professionals can do to increase behavior change through the programs we implement. We will talk about a few companies that offer spaced learning options and how this can be done internally through some creative use of tools that you're already using in your learning programs now. You'll leave with some immediately actionable ways to alter your instructional design process to test it with your learners.
