Games and Gamification

As trainers and designers, we often try to create a stress-free environment for our learners in hopes that we will improve retention. However, there are times that we need to purposely inflict stress on our learners to help them understand how important the content is or to help them react properly in certain situations. This session looks at why applying stress in a training is a good thing, and  what game mechanics can be used to safely induce stress. Participants will experience training that is designed to induce stress and discuss how it effected them.

In this session, you will learn:

  • The effects of stress on the brain
  • How to identify which game mechanics are successful in inducing stress, and how to use them safely
  • How to ethically apply stress in training
