Virtual Classrooms

LS-DX on-demand sessions are recorded videos you can access starting at this date and time, and watch at your own convenience.

In these interesting times, training organizations around the globe have had to make a swift and dramatic shift in their delivery approach—away from the in-person modality toward courses delivered primarily or exclusively online. Remote learners, dialed in from their homes, often don't have sufficient bandwidth to maintain a fully-interactive, cameras-on presence in the "classroom", so activities that allow students to demonstrate engagement—and let instructors gauge learning—become even more important. But the available online delivery tools present technical hurdles to be surmounted for those activities, as well.

In this session, you'll learn strategies for increasing student engagement in the distraction-laden, technically challenging world of largely remote workforces and student bodies. We'll share tips on how to manage guided "whiteboard" discussions with the limited screen real estate of a single monitor and without heavy investment in new and expensive tools for your entire instructor staff.  You'll learn, from our experiences, which strategies for engaging remote students in classroom interactivity have worked and which haven't so you can leverage the best options in your virtual classroom offerings.‬‬

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to build structured, interactive, whole-class activities to guide students from the theoretical to the practial appliction of concepts, and adapt them for small-screen, remote delivery
  • What kinds of interactive, mid-presentation activities remote students respond to best
  • How best to encourage remote learners to engage in hands-on practice exercises and to seek help when they struggle
  • How to manage impromptu "whiteboard" conversations in a virtual classroom

Technology discussed:

Zoom (including polling, breakout rooms, etc.), iPad with stylus, Microsoft Office tools
