P04 - Cultivating a Strong Learning Culture
In environments where learning is constantly necessary and happening "in the flow of work," having a strong learning culture is crucial. An exceptional learning culture can fuel innovation, underpin employee engagement and retention, ensure future-ready capabilities, and enable achievement of the organization's most ambitious goals. Learning-oriented cultures get better results because they make possible the kind of rapid and deep learning that leads to exceptional performance. These cultures attract agile learners: employees who are constantly expanding their knowledge and skill in a rapidly changing landscape. Though we may agree that building a learning culture is important, it can be difficult to figure out how to cultivate such an environment. How do you build a culture among a remote workforce in times of change? How do you make a plan to strengthen a learning culture when such a thing seems nebulous?
We’ll work together to generate actionable insights you can take back to improve your learning culture: insights you can apply to working with your own team, with another group, or with your organization as a whole. In this workshop we'll look at exemplar organizations and see how learning culture is nurtured by communicating inspiring goals, generating intense engagement among people, and leveraging ingrained learning attitudes and skills. We'll deep dive into the nuances of those elements and the variety of tactics you can engage to strengthen a given learning culture and minimize what would impair it. Through this workshop you will develop a small community of learning culture advocates with whom you can share ideas and discuss issues so you can have the confidence and the action steps you need to build a better learning culture. Come prepared for lively conversations and activities that will help you to assess a specific culture you want to improve and to define an action plan you can begin implementing right away.
In this session, you will learn:
- Key foundations of learning culture drawn from leading organizations and research
- Ways to shape and foster a learning culture locally and organization-wide
- Strategies for overcoming inhibitors of a strong learning culture
- A learning culture planning framework (which you will complete so you have actionable takeaways)
